Q: Can I use my SIRIUS CHARGE Pro Series at home without a 12volt battery?
A: Yes. You will need a 12 volt DC power supply that can supply at least 1.5 Amps. We sell an AC wall adapter that is perfect for this. Click here to see it.
Q: I have a transmitter with batteries larger than 1000mAh. Can SIRIUS CHARGE Pro Series charge them?
A: Yes it can. "1000mAh" describes the maximum amount the charger will deliver per charge cycle, NOT the battery size. Since the charger only needs to replace the energy used (and we usually don't run our batteries completely dead), 1000mAh is usually enough. If in doubt, simply charge twice. The computer will shut off the fast charge when the battery is full, regardless of when that occurs.
Q: I've heard that fast charging is not good for batteries, especially long term.
A: That is not true. It was shown 30 years ago by D. M. MacArthur that fast charging actually increases charge acceptance. However, conventional fast chargers tend to ruin batteries by overcharging, and by causing excessive temperature and pressure buildup. The new technology used in SIRIUS CHARGE solves these problems: Peak Predictor tm eliminates overcharge, and RPCtm eliminates temperature and pressure buildup.
Q: My SIRIUS CHARGE will not work with my Futaba transmitter. Why?
A: There is a diode in the charging circuit of most Futaba FM and PCM transmitters (Futaba AM transmitters do not have a diode). This diode prevents SIRIUS CHARGE from detecting the transmitter battery and turning itself on. The diode is very easy to defeat, and will not affect operation of the transmitter. If you would like to see how to do it, click here.
By the way, BEWARE of fast chargers that claim to work through a diode. It is impossible to do proper peak detection through a diode, due to the diode voltage drop changing drastically with temperature and current. Your batteries are at risk!
Q: I purchased a Smart Charge you made for Ace, and it broke. Can you fix it?
A: No, we can not. We never built any chargers for Ace. We only licensed Ace to build Smart Charge. They changed the design (without our approval), and changed some of the components. We do not stock those components. In addition, there is no fix for performance problems caused by their redesign.
Q: Can I charge Nickle Metal Hydride batteries with the Pro Series?
A: Yes, The Sirius Charge line of chargers are the only SAFE FAST chargers for NiMH cells. The Pro Series is limited to 250 to 1200 mAh NiMH cells, The Pro Plus "Upgrade" allows the Pro Series to charge 500 to 3000 mAh NiMH cells.
